Hey guys,
So the past few months the updates have been a little light because of a few things. I participated in Github Game Off in November where we made a turn-based platformer. In December I spent some time continuing to work on that project plus took some time off to spend with the family and the girlfriend. But now it’s 2019 and I’ve hit the ground running.
A friend on mine created a new weapon model for me and I love it. It fits the Tron-like art style that I want in Run and Gun. I spent most of January getting this gun functional. I also spent a lot of time changing the look of my game a bit using the Post Processing Stack. I added some Bloom, Motion Blur, Ambient Occlusion, stuff like that. In addition I made the game a bit darker in general to make the neon lights pop a little more.
Yesterday I showed these new improvements at Playcrafting’s Winter Expo. It was a great showing as usual. I had a lot of good feedback, people seem to be a bit more drawn to the game with the new look now that it’s not just basic materials. I really like the way the game is coming together. That being said, I also learned the parts of the game that need to be improved. There was still some bugs that I think are critical to fixing and a lot of things to be improved upon.
So that’s my mission for now. Fix these bugs and improve upon some of the mechanics that are already there. Specifically fixing the random crashes, improving the gravity + vertical movement to be less “floaty”, and fixing some issues with it forcing you into wall-running when you’re doing things like jumping through a window or doorway.
The coming months should see a lot of these improvments and I hope you check out the new builds on the Run & Gun page!
Thanks,
Mike
